How this calculator works

State per-signature caps are applied to the notarial-act portion. Most states cap general notary fees at $5–$15 per signature. Loan signing agent (NSA) fees are not regulated as notarial fees — they're flat packages: $75–$150 for refis, $125–$200 for purchases. Travel is not regulated in most states — calculator uses a $35 base fee within 10 miles, $0.65/mile beyond. Time premiums (rush, evening, weekend) follow industry-standard 1.25x–1.75x multipliers.

Always check your state's most recent fee schedule — state caps occasionally change. Don't exceed your per-signature cap; doing so is a violation of your notary commission in most states.

Typical NSA fees: $75–$150 for refinances, $125–$200 for purchases, $100–$175 for HELOCs, $150–$250 for reverse mortgages or seller packages. Higher fees for after-hours, weekends, multiple signers, or rush jobs.
Should I charge a flat fee or itemize by signature?
Mobile notary work: Itemize. State-capped fee per signature + travel + waiting. Customers expect this and it complies with consumer-protection laws. Loan signing agent work: Flat package fee is standard — signing services prefer it. Specialty work (apostille, fingerprinting): flat fee per service. Mixing models is fine; just be clear in writing before each appointment.
